Abstract:
Pelvic pain is a common and often complex presentation in remote health settings. Timely recognition and management of conditions including pelvic inflammatory disease is essential to prevent long-term reproductive complications. Clinicians in rural and remote communities face unique challenges, including limited diagnostic resources, delayed laboratory results, and barriers to patient follow-up.
This interactive workshop is designed for clinicians working in remote and rural health services. Participants will engage in small group discussions, case-based scenarios, and problem-solving exercises to develop practical approaches for assessing and managing pelvic pain. Hands on demonstrations using anatomically correct models will highlight structured clinical assessment for decision-making.
Updates to Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea testing and cervical screening including self-collected specimens will be discussed in the workshop.
By the end of the session, participants will leave with enhanced confidence in pelvic assessment, examination (including use of a speculum) recognising PID and other causes of pelvic pain, and actionable strategies to optimise sexual health care in remote settings. This session combines clinical skill development with current sexual health testing guidance, supporting clinicians to deliver timely, patient-centred care for pelvic health in remote communities.
