Abstract:
Murrumbidgee Local Health District had a dream to help their rural and remote managers through an education program aimed to build the capability of our nurse/midwife managers/leaders. The Manager Development Academy was established and has led to 4 days of intense workshops. The workshop topics are managing systems, managing resources, managing self and managing teams. These workshops include practical tips, application of policies in practice, fun activities to enhance learning and workbook activities. Participants also join a community of practice following attendance the day 1 program to share ideas, information and attend further webinars. Feedback from the workshops include:
"I think the topics were extremely relevant to the operational side of running a unit.
I completed a leadership grad cert when first coming into my NUM role in MLHD – but that doesn't provide any guidance around the daily operational requirements such as BI, staffing establishment, funding sources, billing and the recruitment process etc.
To this point any of this information has all been learnt "" on the job"" so to have it formatted and presented in a safe environment was extremely valuable
Manager Development Academy has succeeded in building capability and capacity of our rural leaders to embed and empower practices that lead to courage, compassion and connection.
