Build Your Career Profile with Nursing Pathways: A LEGO Serious Play Workshop

Abstract:

Nurses in MM3 to MM7 locations often report limited access to structured career guidance and reduced visibility of long-term opportunities. ACN’s Nursing Pathways initiative demonstrates that clearer, more accessible career information (combined with active reflection) supports retention, wellbeing and workforce sustainability.

This hands-on workshop uses LEGO Serious Play to help participants build and explore their career identity, capabilities and future possibilities. Through facilitated storytelling, participants construct 3D models representing their clinical experience, leadership strengths, motivations, and the unique opportunities available in remote practice. These models then become the basis for reflective discussion, peer learning, connection and career planning.

The session blends nationally informed insights from Nursing Pathways with a creative, highly engaging methodology designed to overcome professional isolation, strengthen self-awareness, and spark new perspectives about career development in regional and remote contexts.

Participants will:

– Build a personalised Nursing Pathways Career Profile Model using LEGO Serious Play to reflect their strengths, values, skills and aspirations.

– Explore the career opportunities unique to regional, rural and remote practice, including scope, autonomy, leadership, and accelerated capability development.

– Identify and articulate transferable skills gained from remote contexts, using a strengths-based lens.

– Map potential career pathways and next steps using Nursing Pathways tools.

– Understand career navigation as a wellbeing-supportive strategy that improves clarity, confidence and retention.

– Leave with a visual representation of their current career identity and future possibilities.
